Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. said it is too early to discuss the 2028 politics as his name is being floated as among the possible gubernatorial candidates in Negros Occidental in the next elections.
In an interview on Dec. 16, Escalante, the secretary general of United Negros Alliance (UnegA), said he is even contemplating to retire from politics as he will turn 64 in 2028.
Others being floated as possible gubernatorial bets are Third District Rep. Javier Miguel Benitez, Second District Rep. Alfredo Marañon III, Fourth District Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer, and Vice Governor Jose Benito Alonso.
Benitez is a member of Love Negros and Partido Federal ng Pilipinas while Marañon, Ferrer, and Alonso are all UnegA members.
Escalante, who is also the president of Negros Association of Chief Executives, said that UnegA has not even discussed politics or held a Christmas party because of the devastation brought about by Typhoon Tino in the province. | GB
