The Northern Negros Electric Cooperative said Wednesday, July 20, that its average residential rate for July is P16.5663 per kilowatt hour, or an increase of P2.1278/kWh from June’s P14.4385/kWh.

The increase in electricity rate was attributed to the high fuel cost in the generation charges of contracted private power generators, at P1.6212/kWh, and due to the hike in the electricity prices in the spot market that increased by P1.7301/kWh, or from P6.8787 to P8.5988/kWh, the Noneco advisory said.

This is reflected under the generation and transmission charge in the electricity bill.

The coal price in the world market reached 406.52$/MT compared to last month’s price of 326.22 $/MT only.

“The increase in transmission charges is due to the increase in the Ancillary Service Charge of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, the power coop added. “When generation and transmission charges increase, the value-added tax rate also increases.”

The Central Negros Electric Cooperative earlier said its average residential rate for July is P14.1881 per kWh, or an increase of P2.0710/kWh, from the P12.1171 rate last month.

The Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative also increased its rate to P15.5203 per kWh this month, from June’s P13.7623, or a hike of P1.75 per kWh.

Noneco said only P1.6109/kWh of the power rate goes to Noneco through Distribution, Supply, Metering (DSM) charges, for its operation, construction, and maintenance services.

Since 2010, Noneco’s DSM rate has not increased, it added.

Noneco also urged consumers to continue to be vigilant in checking their power meters against pilferage and the illegal use of electricity, and to regularly practice energy-saving measures. /CGC
