The Commission on Elections (Comelec) offices across Negros Island Region (NIR) will remain open on Saturdays to accommodate more applicants during the voter registration period starting Nov. 10.
Comelec-NIR Regional Election Director Atty. Lionel Marco Castillano said registration services will be available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday, including official local holidays.
Castillano said Comelec offices will adopt a work-from-home arrangement every Monday until March, while regular office operations will be suspended on Sundays.
The registration period will accommodate new voters, applicants seeking to transfer their registration records, voters who want to reactivate their registration after failing to vote in two consecutive elections, and those who need to correct or update their personal details.
Applicants are advised to bring a valid identification card or a photocopy of their birth certificate or police clearance as supporting documents.
However, company identification cards and barangay clearances will not be accepted as valid identification documents.
The extended Saturday and holiday services aim to make voter registration more accessible and convenient, particularly for those unable to visit Comelec offices during regular government working hours.
The voter registration is also in preparation for the 2028 national and local elections. | GPB
