Bacolod City received a new fire truck with a 1,000-gallon capacity from the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Councilor Pao Sy said Wednesday, Oct. 19.
Sy, chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Fire, Defense, and Natural Disasters, received the ceremonial key from DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos, with Bureau of Fire Protection director Louie Puracan, Fire Chief Supt. Jerry Candido of BFP Region 6, and Bacolod fire marshal, C/Insp. Rodel Legaspi, during a ceremony at the BFP National Headquarters in Quezon City Oct. 18.
The turnover of 35 newly-acquired fire trucks to select cities and municipalities nationwide aims to help boost their firefighting capability
Abalos said the acquisition of the fire trucks is part of the BFP’s modernization program to meet the ideal ratio of one fire truck for every city or municipality.
“Through these fire trucks, which will be distributed to 35 fire stations in key cities and municipalities all over the country, we will be able to bolster the BFP’s capability to respond to fire incidents in their communities,” Abalos said in a statement. “At the end of the day, we want to give our people a sense of security and safety that the BFP is at their service and is ready and equipped to help them during fire emergencies.”
Of the 35 fire trucks, regions 1, 5, and 8 get four each; one each for regions 2, 11, Caraga and the National Capital Region; three each for regions 3, 7, and 10; five in Calabarzon; and two each in regions 6 and 9.
The vehicle, with a diesel type engine, is equipped with an exhaust gas recirculation system and Euro IV compliant, fire pump system with round the pump foam proportioning system, 200-liter foam tank, firefighting equipment, tools and accessories using appropriate fire service standards adaptable to Philippine conditions. ||
