Too early to speculate.

This was the reaction of acting Negros Occidental Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer on swirling talks on social media that presidential son, William Vincent “Vinny” Marcos, may run for congressman in the province, if the proposed splitting of Bacolod City into two legislative districts will be approved.

Ferrer, who is the personal adviser of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in Western Visayas, questioned the source of information.

“The person concerned may have even no knowledge about it,” he said, adding that the presidential son never mentioned about it in his two visits to Negros Occidental.

Welcome banners during the MassKara Festival celebration had Vinny’ Marcos’ photo with his parents, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., mother, First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Benitez and his son, Victorias City Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez.

The speculation was bolstered after some observers noticed that welcome tarps during the MassKara Festival celebration had Vinny’s photo with his mother, First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Benitez and his son, Victorias City Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez.

The presidential family attended the MassKara Festival, and Vinny and his mother stayed for two days and were later joined by the President.

“Let’s wait. I cannot speak in behalf of them. But, as of now, there is none,” Ferrer said referring to the Marcos’ political plan in Negros.

He said it will be confirmed if Vinny will transfer his residence before the 2025 elections, stressing that “everyone has the right to do it.”

The bottom line is, it will be the people who will decide, Ferrer stressed.

In July this year, the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod approved a resolution of support to the proposed redistricting bill re-filed by Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya in the 19th Congress.

The bill was filed in the 17th and 18th Congress but did not prosper due to lack of support from the previous SP, which is one of the requirements for its discussion in the House of Representatives./GB
