Mayor Alejandro Mirasol yesterday called on tourists, who are visiting the Hermit Mountain in Brgy. Bi-ao, Binalbagan, to be responsible enough in the disposal of their garbage.

Mirasol has expressed his disappointment over the trash left by “irresponsible tourists” at the Hermit Mountain, which is now a popular tourist attraction in Binalbagan. The area used to be a rebel-influenced barangay in the town.

The Hermit Mountain in Binalbagan, Negros Occidental is littered with trash left behind by tourists.

The mayor admitted that crowd control has become a problem in the area due to thousands of visiting tourists, especially during the weekend.

While he deployed Bantay Bukid Brigade members to clean the area, Mirasol said they are not enough as the whole site is several kilometers long.

Mt. Hermit is now a favorite destination of tourists from other areas of Negros Occidental, especially the bikers and hikers, due to its breathtaking scenic views, which others likened to Baguio City.

Mirasol said the Municipal Tourism Office is now implementing measures on how to control the crowd and address the issue on trash left behind, or scattered by tourists, at Mt. Hermit.

He also clarified that the municipal government is not authorizing anyone to collect entrance fees since the town officials have yet to finalize the rules and regulations on the entry of tourists in the area./GB
