Bago City has reached a 95.52 percent accomplishment in its Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-SIA), with 9,981 children vaccinated, as of Sept. 4.
The figures were reported by the Bago City Primary Care Facility in its accomplishment report dated Sept. 6.
The 95.52 percent accomplishment is based specifically on Bago City’s actual target of 10,449 children. This means that nearly 96 out of every 100 children included in the city’s actual target have already been reached and vaccinated.
This figure should be distinguished from the Department of Health’s projected target of 16,603 children for Bago. The 9,981 children vaccinated represent 60.12 percent of the DOH projected target. The 95.52 percent figure, however, is the city’s accomplishment against its actual target of 10,449 children, the city said in a press release.
Measles and rubella are highly contagious, vaccine preventable diseases that can cause serious health complications, especially in young children. While rubella is generally milder, infection during pregnancy can cause miscarriage or serious birth defects.
The MR-SIA is part of the DOH’s Ligtas Tigdas 2026 campaign, which aims to close gaps in immunization by reaching children, who may have missed previous vaccinations, and providing an additional opportunity to strengthen protection against measles and rubella.
The campaign complements the regular immunization services provided by local health facilities.
For the 2026 campaign, children 6 to 59 months old are among the priority beneficiaries. Parents and guardians are encouraged to work closely with their local health teams to ensure that eligible children are reached and protected through vaccination.
The citywide performance reflects the collective efforts of the city government, city and barangay health workers, vaccinators, community partners, parents, and caregivers who helped bring the vaccination campaign closer to children in all 24 barangays.
Fourteen of Bago’s 24 barangays met, or exceeded their respective actual targets, demonstrating strong community participation in the campaign. Leading the accomplishment were Bagroy at 115.84 percent, Alianza 112.65 percent, Mailum 111.68 percent, Atipuluan 106.37 percent, and Abuanan at 105.39 percent.
Also reaching or exceeding 100 percent of their respective targets were barangays Sagasa, Calumangan, Ma-ao, Pacol, Binubuhan, Ilijan, Poblacion, Balingasag, and Don Jorge L. Araneta.
The remaining barangays also contributed to the citywide accomplishment, with local health teams continuing their efforts to reach children who have yet to be vaccinated. ||
