The 1.76-kilometer bypass road in Bais City, Negros Oriental, worth P292 million, was inaugurated June 8, the Department of Public Works and Highways-Negros Island Region said.

The project, which includes a 32-linear-meter bridge, aims to primarily ease road congestion, especially during rush hour, and improve the mobility of motorists going north to south of Negros Island and vice versa, it added.

The inauguration and blessing marked another significant milestone in the infrastructure development efforts of Bais, aimed at improving traffic flow, connectivity, and accessibility for residents and motorists, the city said.

“The project greatly enhances road safety, especially for students of the Bais City Pilot School, by diverting large trucks and heavy vehicles away from the main national highway,” Mayor Luigi Marcel Goñi said in a statement June 9, adding it helps ease traffic congestion within the proper of Bais, ensuring smoother and safer travel for residents.”

In addition, this bypass road now serves as a key highway route for the Negros Island Region, providing a more efficient passage for travelers coming from the south going to the north, and from the north heading to the south, the mayor said.

“This is a clear sign that Bais City is steadily moving forward toward progress and modernization,” Goñi stressed.

The inauguration was also attended by other city officials, DPWH-NIR assistant regional director Engr. Rodney Gustilo, and Dumaguete Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, among others. ||
