The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) Negros Island Region (NIR) has commended the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental and the Kapitolyo Solid Waste Management Educators (KaSE) for their flagship environmental programs.
The recognition was given as part of the Solid Waste Management Summit 2026 and Extended Producer Responsibility Orientation held at SMX Convention Center Bacolod on Sept. 2 and 3.
The provincial government was recognized for its leadership in promoting local government unit clustering and funding support for the establishment of a common sanitary landfill facility through the Provincial Environment Management Office.
The KaSE Program, meanwhile, was cited for its exemplary practices in environmental education, community engagement and solid waste management.
Other local government awardees included Bayawan, San Carlos, Bago, Sipalay, Murcia, Manapla, Calatrava, Cadiz and Kabankalan cities, as well as Barangay Mambulac in Silay City and Barangay Tinampa-an in Cadiz City.
The two-day summit gathered environmental officers, local government representatives and other stakeholders to discuss updates on Republic Act 9003, safe closure and rehabilitation of disposal facilities, waste diversion, coastal resource management and circular economy strategies. ||
