A 22-year-old man was injured in a shooting incident while connecting to a Piso Wi-Fi machine, while an armed suspect was arrested for illegal discharge of a firearm hours later in Sitio Melo, Barangay Marcelo, Calatrava, Negros Occidental Sept. 2.
The Calatrava Municipal Police Station (MPS) said the first incident transpired at around 4 a.m. when the victim, who was outside a neighbor’s house trying to connect to a Piso Wi-Fi vending machine, was shot by a still unidentified assailant.
He attempted to take cover inside the house, but the gunman fired another shot, hitting him in the buttocks, before fleeing the scene.
The victim was rushed to the Sagay City District Hospital and is now in stable condition, the police said.
At around 3:30 that afternoon, police received a distress call about an alleged drunk, identified as alias “Bernie”, 42, who was firing a gun indiscriminately in the same sitio.
The suspect, who resides in nearby Sitio Tinoyokan, allegedly began shooting at the house of a 45-year-old female resident for no apparent reason.
Responding personnel from the Regional Public Safety Battalion-NIR arrested the suspect and recovered a caliber .45 pistol, one magazine, and three rounds of live ammunition from him.
A search of the immediate area also yielded six fired cartridge cases of caliber .45.
“Bernie” faces charges for illegal discharge of firearm and violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, the police said. | TMD
