The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) turned over a one-kilometer farm-to-market road, worth P9.8 million, to the Kabankalan City government, led by Mayor Pedro Zayco Jr. Oct. 15.
The road project is expected to help about 600 upland farmers in Brgy. Hilamonan, Kabankalan City, who produce sugarcane, rice, and fruits.
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, who attended the turnover ceremony, said Kabankalan farmers can now easily deliver their produce to the market, adding that the provincial government recognizes the vital role of agriculture in ensuring food security during the pandemic.
The Department of Agriculture provided the funds for the project, that was implemented through the DPWH.
Zayco committed to set aside funds for the construction of a 200-meter additional road to complete the Hilamonan Road, a press release from the city said.
Vice Mayor Raul Rivera said the road is a shortcut to the city public market from sitios Casipsipan, Lupni, Sinalpan, Dangalon, Danao and San Antonio, all considered as the rice granaries of Kabankalan City. | NND
