Twenty large barangays in Bacolod City are set to receive electric utility vans within the year following the allocation of around P30-million from the national government’s Local Government Support Fund.
Bacolod Lone District Rep. Alfredo Benitez said the initial rollout focuses on larger barangays, with recipients selected through draw lots.
“What we are pushing for the city of Bacolod is to migrate public transportation, and as much as possible, all transportation into electric vehicles,” he added.
“We already see the benefit of electric vehicles, so why do we have to wait? If we already have the opportunity to acquire vehicles, it is better to go electric,” Benitez, also a House deputy speaker, stressed.
“The profit is higher, there are fewer problems, because there are fewer moving parts in the engine and it’s renewable,” he emphasized.
The procured units will strictly serve as utility vans tailored for barangay operations and community services to maximize local administrative support, he added. | TMD
