The University of St. La Salle in Bacolod said Sept. 7 that it has deployed x-ray scanners to add to security measures being implemented in the campus.
“This follows the rollout of walk-through metal detectors, ID tapping stations, and other safety and security initiatives in recent months,” the USLS said in a post, adding that more security improvements are underway to strengthen safety across the campus.
The USLS has logged several security-related incidents the past few weeks, and had to cancel face-to-face classes to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and other school personnel.
“The university administration continues to invest in measures that help keep the campus safe for everyone,” it added.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod earlier urged schools across Bacolod to strengthen campus security, and emergency response protocols, including measures to prevent the entry of firearms and other deadly weapons into school premises, following a spate of shooting and stabbing incidents inside schools.
The SP said the comprehensive security assessment should include, among others, adequate entry and exit controls, visitor management and identification procedures, security personnel deployment, CCTV systems, emergency communication and alarm systems, perimeter security, protocols for detecting and preventing the entry of firearms and other deadly weapons, evacuation and lockdown procedures, and coordination with police and emergency responders.
“Schools must remain safe environments where children and young people can pursue their education without fear of violence, the SP stressed in approving a resolution authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito, adding that “preventive security measures should be continuously reviewed in light of emerging threats and changing circumstances.” | CGC
