Murder suspect dead in police shoot-out

A 51-year-old murder suspect in Morong, Rizal Province died after a confrontation with authorities, who served his warrant of arrest last Jan. 22, 10 p.m., at Purok Sta. Rita Barangay Dulao in Bago City Negros Occidental.

Emmanuel Sampani, together with his live-in partner who works as a checker of Krushrock Crusher in Bago City, tried to evade arrest by alighting from his driven Honda motorcycle upon sensing the approaching authorities.

Police report said the suspect ran towards the sugarcane plantation and sought cover behind a mahogany tree and fired a shot at policemen, prompting authorities to retaliate, causing the death of the suspect.

The policemen were from a joint team of the Anti-Kidnaping Task Group in Camp Crame headed by P/Capt. Adrian James Albaytar, Bago City Police and Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office Intelligence Unit.

They carried with them an arrest warrant issued by Regional Trial Court 4th Judicial Region dated Aug. 25, 1988 from Morong, Rizal.

Bago City Police Office immediately sought the assistance of NOPPO -SOCO to process the crime scene and recovered some pieces of evidence that included one colt 45 pistol with one magazine and six live ammunition, one Armscor 9mm pistol with magazine and eight live ammunition, one 38 revolver with six live ammunition, a cellphone, two-way portable radio and a black Honda Beat motorcycle bearing plate number 0691658.

The victim’s body was removed from the crime scene early morning of Jan. 23 and brought to the nearest funeral parlor for autopsy and subjected to paraffin test examination.

The said operation was launched following an intelligence operation and series of validations based on information gathered from concerned citizens. – MML
