A senior citizen was shot and killed by an unidentified assailant on his way home from work at a farm in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental Sept. 1.
The Kabankalan City Component Police Station identified the victim as Carlos Mercado, 78, of Barangay Tabugon.
He was carrying a piece of bamboo in Purok Narra, Barangay Tabugon, at around 5:45 p.m. when he was allegedly waylaid by an unidentified suspect and shot several times with the use of a still unidentified caliber of firearm, the police reported.
The suspect fled after the incident while Mercado, who sustained severe gunshot wounds, was declared dead on arrival at the Kabankalan District Hospital, the police added.
