A total of 962 vehicles were grounded and barred from operating after failing road safety standards during the Land Transportation Office-Negros Island Region’s (LTO-NIR) holiday operation.
The enforcement team flagged these unfit units out of 13,017 vehicles inspected across the region from Oct. 23 to Nov. 4, under the Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Undas 2026 campaign.
The banned vehicles will remain grounded until they meet the agency’s required safety standards.
The LTO-NIR said they issued 370 Temporary Operator’s Permits (TOPs) for various offenses, including operating colorum vehicles, using unregistered or delinquent motor vehicles, violating the Seat Belts Use Act of 1999, reckless driving, driving without a valid license, and using unauthorized or fake license plates.
The LTO-NIR emphasized in a statement that road safety goes beyond enforcement. “Keeping unsafe vehicles off the road and ensuring that drivers and transport operators comply with regulations remain essential to protecting commuters and motorists.”
It added that road safety enforcement remains in full force across the region. | TMD
