Seventy-five public schools across Bacolod City are set to receive handheld metal scanners aimed at bolstering security measures and ensuring a safer learning environment.
The initiative took a step forward July 28, following the official turnover of 200 handheld scanners by Mayor Greg Gasataya to the Department of Education Schools Division Office of Bacolod, and received by schools’ division superintendent Dennis Develos.
Develos said the 200 handheld metal detectors will be distributed in 75 public elementary and high schools throughout the city.
Priority will be given to educational institutions that have yet to receive similar security equipment, he added.
Gasataya said the scanners were donated by private individuals and organizations.
“We have given DepEd the discretion to divide how many will be given to the elementary and high schools because they know better,” Gasataya said.
He added the city is now preparing the purchase request and funding requirements for the 20 walkthrough metal scanners targeted for distribution to selected schools this third quarter. | TMD
