A former member of the Yunit Militia affiliated with the communist terrorist group (CTG) surrendered to authorities in Barangay Gargato, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental, July 23.
The female surrenderee, previously associated with the dismantled Central Negros 2 unit of the Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor, voluntary renounced her support for the insurgency, while at the headquarters of the 2nd Negros Occidental Mobile Force Company.
The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region said the woman initiated contact with former CTG members, who had earlier returned to the fold of the law to assist in her voluntary surrender.
She turned over a .357 caliber revolver along with two live rounds of ammunition.
She told authorities that she was recruited into the CTG in 2013, and was promised land ownership support for her family.
She was the group’s intelligence monitor, tracking and reporting the movements of government forces to help armed units evade military and law enforcement operations.
Police said they are now coordinating with the Philippine Army and the local government unit to prepare documents for her enrollment in the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program and other government assistance initiatives under the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict.
