The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) has reported a sharp decline in focus crime incidents across the region in June 2026, recording a 44.94 percent decrease compared to the same month last year.

In a statement, PRO-NIR attributed the sustained reduction to intensified law enforcement operations, proactive crime prevention strategies, and stronger collaboration between police, local government units, and community stakeholders.

Data released on Tuesday, July 7 showed that focus crime incidents significantly dropped in several categories during the period.

Murder cases declined by five percent, with incidents decreasing from 20 in June 2025 to 19 in June 2026.

Homicide posted the biggest drop among crimes against persons, falling by 71.43 percent from seven cases to two while physical injury cases plunged by 88.89 percent, from nine incidents to just one.

Crimes against property also recorded lower figures. Robbery incidents decreased by 16.67 percent, from six cases to five, while theft cases went down by 25 percent, from 16 incidents to 12.

Meanwhile, carnapping of motorcycles dropped by 33.33 percent, with cases declining from six to four. Carnapping of motor vehicles was completely eliminated during the month, recording zero incidents compared to one case in the same period last year, representing a 100 percent reduction. | GPB
