The municipality of La Castellana in Negros Occidental remains free from African swine fever (ASF) despite reports of possible infections circulating in nearby areas.
Mayor Añejo Nicor said on Monday, June 29 they have not recorded hog deaths after the ASF hit some areas in the province.
To strengthen the municipality’s preparedness, Nicor recently issued an executive order directing concerned offices and the public to remain vigilant against the possible entry of ASF.

As part of heightened biosecurity measures, the mayor said that 24-hour border checkpoints have been established along the municipality’s boundaries with Pontevedra, La Carlota City, Moises Padilla, and Isabela.
Nicor said personnel stationed at checkpoints have been tasked to strictly monitor the movement of live pigs and pork-related products to prevent the possible entry of the disease in the municipality.
He also urged barangay officials and residents to immediately report any suspected ASF cases. | GPB
