The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Negros Island Region said March 10 that it has turned over P6,363,000 in social pension funds to the municipality of Valencia in Negros Oriental to support indigent senior citizens under the government’s Social Pension Program.

The amount will benefit 2,121 senior citizen beneficiaries, with each receiving P3,000, representing the P1,000 monthly pension for three months.

The Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens program aims to augment the daily subsistence and medical needs of elderly Filipinos, who have no regular source of income or financial support, the DSWD-NIR said.

The ceremonial turnover was led by DSWD-NIR director Arwin Razo, with Aileen Cuevas, assistant regional director for Operations, and supervising administrative officer Cliburn Remotina, its press release said.

The check was formally received by officials of the Valencia local government, including Sangguniang Bayan members Elsie Dagoy and Romeo Alviola, municipal treasurer Rolando Obaniana, acting municipal accountant Jay Tañamor, municipal social welfare and development officer Carlito Baligasa, executive assistant Curt Lance Maturan, and Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) head Buensalido Abueva.
