Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson plans to seek a General Community Quarantine for Negros Occidental if COVID-19 cases will continue to increase in the province.

“When the numbers call for it. We might have to go for a stricter quarantine status,” Lacson said, noting a double digit increase per day of COVID-19 active cases.

Negros Occidental logged 137 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, bringing to 2,068 the number of active cases in the province. On Saturday, the highly-urbanized Bacolod City got 178 new cases, increasing to 1,399 the number of its active cases.

At present, the province of Negros Occidental remains under the classification of Modified General Community Quarantine until June 30, based on the executive order issued by Lacson.

Non-essential travelers from Negros Occidental and neighboring areas have been barred from entering Iloilo province since June 4 until June 18, as stipulated in the executive order issued by Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr., citing a surge in COVID-19 cases.

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Trenas is still waiting the approval from the Inter Agency Task on his request for an extended travel moratorium between Iloilo City and Negros Island.

Iloilo province is presently experiencing a surge with 1,704 COVID-19  cases, excluding the 1,982 active cases in Iloilo City, as of  June 6, based on the report from the Department of Health-Western Visayas. –GB
