Work has been suspended yesterday at the Rafael Salas Park and Nature Center in Bago City, Negros Occidental due to strong sulfur smell and thin ash fall, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office head Merijene Ortizo said.

The 18 tourism employees assigned the park and nature center in Sitio Guintubdan, Barangay Ilijan were ordered not to report to work.

On Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded two ashing events as degassing of Mt. Kanlaon continues.

It also logged 14 volcanic quakes and emission of 4,099 tons of sulfur dioxide on Nov. 6.

Phivolcs resident volcanologist Mari-Andylene Quintia said that the ash plumes were observed at 5:55 a.m. and 6:39 a.m. on Thursday, which drifted towards areas of Bago and Murcia town.

Thin layers of ashfall were observed on Wednesday in Sitio Upper Pantaw in Barangays Pula and Masulog in Canlaon City.

Thin layers of grey ash also affected barangays of Biak Na Bato, Cabacungan, and Cabagnaan in La Castellana, Negros Occidental.

Dr. Ma. Girlie Pinongan, provincial health officer, said that they have not received reports on increase in respiratory ailments in La Castellana.

Pinongan advised residents in the area to wear masks or use clean clothes when Mt. Kanlaon emissions occur.| GB
