This week, Central Philippine University celebrates Christ Emphasis Week with the theme “Fully Alive,” based on John 10:10.
As we continue our series on the commands of Christ, we come to one of the most beautiful promises Jesus ever made: “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” This is not just a promise. It is a command to receive the life He offers: a life that is abundant, eternal, and fully alive.
But what does it mean to be “Fully Alive”? It means more than existing. It means more than surviving. It means living in the fullness of who God created us to be. It means experiencing the joy, peace, and purpose that only Jesus can give. And it begins with obeying His command to come to Him and receive life.
First, to be fully alive means to come to Jesus for life.
Jesus said in John 5:40, “You refuse to come to me to have life.” Many people search for life in other places like in success, in relationships, in possessions, in pleasure.
But Jesus is the only source of true life.
He is the Creator of life. He is the Sustainer of life. He is the Restorer of life. To be fully alive is to be connected to Him.
Abundant life is not about having more things. It is about having more of Jesus. It is knowing Him, loving Him, and walking with Him every day.
When we come to Jesus, we receive life that cannot be taken away. We receive life that death cannot destroy. We receive life that satisfies the deepest longings of the soul.
Second, to be fully alive means to obey His voice.
John 10:27 says, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” To be fully alive is to follow the Shepherd.
It is to listen to His voice and obey His commands. This is what it means to be a disciple. Not just to hear Jesus, but to follow Him. Not just to know His words, but to do them.
Obedience is not the opposite of life. It is the pathway to life. When we obey Jesus, we walk in the light. We experience His protection. We find pasture for our souls.
The abundant life Jesus promises is not a life of ease. It is a life of purpose. It is a life of following the Good Shepherd wherever He leads.
As CPU celebrates Christ Emphasis Week, the invitation is clear: Come to Jesus and be fully alive. Not just during this week, but every day. Not just in the church, but in the classroom, in the dormitory, in the workplace.
Hear His voice. Follow His commands. And experience the abundant life that only Jesus can give. | NWI
