The local Bureau of Fire Protection will soon have its permanent home in Brgy. Robles, La Castellana, Negros Occidental.
A deed of donation was signed between Mayor Alme Rhummyla Nicor-Mangilimutan and Fire S/Supt. Jerry Candido, for the donation of a 1,000 square-meter lot by the municipal government to BFP Dec. 6.
Mangilimutan said she envisions the area to be transformed into a social activity center, similar to the Panaad Park in Bacolod City, where the command and rescue centers of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and an evacuation center, are located.
Under her leadership, the municipal government also earlier donated another 1,000 square-meter lot in the same area, for the new La Castellana Police Station.
Mangilimutan said the municipal government also plans to establish a satellite BFP sub-station in Brgy. Cabacungan, which is near to some of its hinterland barangays and where other satellite government offices, including a police precinct, have already been established.
Candido told Mangilimutan that he is ready to provide personnel to be stationed in the proposed BFP sub-station.
“If we have standby fire truck in those areas, we can immediately respond to any fire incident as soon as possible,” Mangilimutan said.
Candido said they need P9.5 million to construct a fire station building.
Mangilimutan, a former police officer, said her priority is peace and order, with the help of various security agencies.
“I believe that of there is stable peace and order, the development and progress will be there,” she stressed.
The signing of the deed of donation was witnessed by Chief Inspector Kim Celisio, BFP provincial director of Negros Occidental, Councilor Añejo Nicor – chairman of the La Castellana Sangguniang Bayan Committee on Tourism, the heads of BFP stations in the 5th district of Negros Occidental, municipal department heads, and barangay captains of the town. — GB
