Child representatives in the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC) in 18 barangays of San Carlos City received financial assistance from the provincial government of Negros Occidental Feb. 28.

Each child representative received P3,600 as educational assistance, handed over by Blenda Abarquez of the Provincial Council for the Protection of Children, and Jeffrey Maningo of the Provincial Treasurer’s Office.

Abarquez said the provincial government has set aside a budget for child representatives 10 to 15 years old from the different barangays throughout Negros Occidental, who voluntarily serve in their respective communities.

She said there are four local government units (LGUs) that benefited from the educational assistance, including the towns of Manapla, Don Salvador Benedicto, and Hinigaran, and San Carlos City while other LGUs are still processing their requirements as required by the provincial government, the city said in a press release March 1.

Lavern Rigor of the City Social Welfare and Development Office said it is not difficult for San Carlos to apply for provincial educational assistance because its Federation of BCPC is active. ||
