The Department of Social Welfare and Development Negros Island Region (DSWD NIR) said May 30 that 269 students and graduate beneficiaries received assistance amounting to P1,816,8300 under the cash-for-work (CFW) program.
The payout for beneficiaries of the program is in partnership with Siquijor State College, Central Philippine State University, and Negros Oriental State University.
The program provided temporary employment opportunities to students and graduates, enabling them to earn income while gaining valuable work experience, developing discipline, and fostering a stronger sense of responsibility.

Beyond financial assistance, the initiative sought to promote productivity, community engagement, and personal development among the beneficiaries, helping prepare them for future employment opportunities and civic participation.
“The successful implementation of the program achieved 100 percent participation and completion among the graduates and student-beneficiaries under the CFW in the Negros Island Region, reflecting their dedication, perseverance, and commitment in carrying out their assigned tasks and responsibilities,” the DSWD-NIR said.
Through initiatives such as the CFW, the DSWD-NIR continues to empower young individuals by providing meaningful opportunities that contribute to their personal growth, skills development, and economic resilience, it added.
It also said that it already turned over P15,585,000 to the city government of Bacolod for the implementation of the social pension program for indigent senior citizens for the second quarter of this year.
The fund allocation will benefit 5,195 social pension beneficiaries in Bacolod, providing financial assistance to help support their daily and basic needs.
The check was formally turned over to Mayor Greg Gasataya and other city officials, by DSWD-NIR regional director Arwin Razo, assistant RD for Operations Aileen Cuevas, supervising administrative officer Cliburn Remotina, and members of the DSWD-NIR Social Pension staff.
The turnover of funds forms part of the continuing commitment of DSWD-NIR to ensure the timely delivery of social protection services and financial assistance to vulnerable sectors, particularly indigent senior citizens across the region. ||
