A barangay tanod (village watchman) was reported to have been summarily executed by five armed suspects on Dec. 9 at his residence in Sitio Camao, Barangay Marcelo, Calatrava, Negros Occidental.
The 48-year-old victim, who is also a farmer, was sleeping together with members of his family when they were awakened by armed men, according to the investigation of Calatrava police.
When the victim, whose identity was withheld by the police, failed to present the firearm demanded from him, the assailants shot him in the head.
Investigation further showed that after the fatal shooting, the armed men fled, taking a hand-held radio, handcuff and identification card of the victim, who was declared dead on arrival at the Calatrava Municipal Hospital.
An empty shell of a caliber .45 pistol was recovered at the scene of incident. | GB
