The Department of Labor and Employment in Western Visayas has released P18.581 million in cash assistance to 3,946 residents in Bacolod City under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Displaced/Disadvantaged Workers or TUPAD Program.
The recipients included 1,632 individuals from 15 villages who were reached through the office of City Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya last December.
“They were provided assistance from the government during the pandemic last year,” Gasataya said in a statement posted on Facebook.
The beneficiaries, who did community disinfecting/sanitation work in their respective barangays, each received P5,925 cash, personal protective equipment, and insurance benefit.
TUPAD is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers, for a minimum period of 10 days, but not to exceed a maximum of 30 days, depending on the nature of work to be performed.
Under the TUPAD #Barangay Ko, Bahay Ko, temporary employment was provided to workers from the informal sectors who are either underemployed, self-employed, or displaced marginalized workers whose earnings are affected by the enhanced community quarantine amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Beneficiaries were given employment for four hours a day for 10 days and were paid the daily minimum wage in the region. – NLG
