The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) has committed to secure the variation order needed to resolve the power supply issues involving the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) rehabilitation project.

A variation order refers to any increase or decrease in quantities within the general scope of the project as bid and awarded.

Mayor Greg Gasataya on Monday, June 8, confirmed the development after meeting with agency officials, noting that the city’s primary focus is ensuring TIEZA meets its updated completion timeline.

“For our part, what is important is that they hit their target, which is September. The city will continue to monitor them so they comply with their commitment,” he said.

Gasataya only found out last week that the power supply requirements for the new BCGC fountain had been omitted from the original contract.

He said the TIEZA initially assumed the project could tap into the existing system, but technical computations showed the current grid is only sufficient for standard building operations of the government center.

Amelita Caganda, manager of TIEZA Construction Management Department, met with city officials to coordinate the adjustments and reported that major components are moving forward.

At the plaza, lighting fixtures were already installed while the electrical wiring is underway.

The P300-million tourism infrastructure project comprises P220 million for the BCGC fountain area upgrade and P80 million for the public plaza renovation. | TMD
