PBrig. Gen. Rudecindo Reales, the newly installed regional police director of the Negros Island Region, on Tuesday urged police personnel to return to the basics of policing, emphasizing crime prevention through visible and active presence in communities.
Speaking during his initial engagement with PRO-NIR personnel at Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr. in Bacolod City, Reales said the fundamental duty of the police is to prevent and solve crimes, stressing that prevention should come first.
Reales was installed on Sept. 7 by PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez as PRO-NIR regional director at Camp Crame. He replaced PBrig. Gen. Romano Cardino, who was designated as regional police director of Region 8, or Eastern Visayas.
He directed all city and provincial directors, station commanders, and police personnel across the region to strengthen their presence on the streets, noting that visible police officers can help deter criminal activities and prevent incidents before they happen.
Reales also underscored the need for effective crime solution when incidents occur, reminding personnel to maintain discipline, professionalism, and integrity in the performance of their duties.
He said every decision and action of a police officer affects the credibility of the Philippine National Police, urging personnel to exercise sound judgment and protect the public’s trust.
Reales added that a strong police organization begins with personnel who understand their responsibilities, remain accountable for their actions, and perform their duties with purpose. | GPB
