The Negros Occidental provincial government awarded a total of P981,000 in incentive allowances to athletes who won medals in the recently concluded Palarong Pambansa 2026 held in Agusan del Sur.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson on Wednesday, June 10 led the distribution of the incentives and commended the athletes for bringing honor to the province through their achievements in a ceremony held at the Negros Residences in Bacolod City.

Under the incentive program, gold medalists received P15,000 each; silver medalists, P8,000; and bronze medalists, P5,000.

In the regular sports division, the province produced seven gold medals, seven silver medals, and four bronze medals.

Athletes competing in the para games likewise earned seven gold medals, four silver medals, and one bronze medal.

Lacson expressed satisfaction with the performance of the provincial delegation, noting that the athletes’ success reflects the effectiveness of the provincial government’s sports development program.

He attributed the strong results to the province’s dedicated athletics training program based at the Panaad Stadium, which continues to nurture and develop promising athletes.

Lacson congratulated all medalists and encouraged them to continue improving their skills and training harder for future competitions.

At the same time, the governor challenged the athletes to aim for a spot in the delegation that will represent the Negros Island Region in the 2027 Palarong Pambansa to be held in Quezon City.

“Our athletes have shown great determination and talent. We hope they will continue to hone their abilities so they can proudly represent the region and achieve even greater success in the years ahead,” Lacson said. | GB
