Deputy Speaker Bacolod City Lone District Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez is exploring solar power, battery energy storage systems and smart microgrid technology as potential solutions to improve the reliability and affordability of electricity.
Benitez said he recently met with representatives of Huawei to discuss energy technologies that could help strengthen the highly urbanized city’s power supply and reduce disruptions affecting households and businesses.
“We deserve cleaner, more reliable energy,” Benitez said. “Reliable power means fewer disruptions, stronger businesses, and better everyday life for Bacolodnons.”
In a statement, the lawmaker said the adoption of appropriate renewable energy and energy storage technologies could help communities cope with power shortages while supporting a more stable electricity system.
“Through the right partnerships and technology, we can strengthen our energy supply for a better and more reliable future for Bacolod,” Benitez said.
During periods of power shortages, Benitez said keeping electricity available to homes and communities remains a priority.
He said that he is working with the Department of Public Works and Highways to encourage hotels and other large establishments to maintain backup generators.
The initiative is intended to help ease pressure on the power grid during periods of limited supply by allowing large establishments to rely on their own backup generation, potentially freeing more available power for residential consumers.
Benitez emphasized the importance of cooperation between the government and private sector in addressing the city’s energy challenges.
“When businesses and government work together, we can improve the power supply and make it more stable and reliable for every family,” he said. | GPB
