The Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Western Visayas said April 22 that it will revoke the driver’s license of Jagpret Singh, 37, the Indian national involved in the Good Friday road accident in Bacolod City that claimed the lives of three persons and injured more than a dozen.
“We issued a show‑cause order against the Indian national because he yielded a positive result in the alcohol test,” LTO6 director, Atty. Gaudioso Geduspan II, said in a statement. “This is a clear case of reckless driving. Given the fatalities and injuries, we are moving to revoke his license on the grounds that he is unfit to operate a motor vehicle.”
Singh, of Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod, was the driver of the red Toyota Innova involved in a multi-vehicle crash during a Good Friday procession in Barangay Alangilan.
Three persons died while 17 others were injured. Except for two policemen, all are parishioners participating in a religious procession when the accident happened.
The LTO6 has dispatched personnel from its Negros Occidental Licensing Center to assist authorities in gathering evidence and eyewitness accounts.
The administrative case will determine whether Singh’s credentials should be permanently cancelled, Geduspan said.
On April 21, the Bacolod City Police Office filed before the City Prosecutor’s Office charges for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, serious multiple physical injuries, and damage to properties against Singh. | CGC
