Former Himamaylan City mayor dies

Former Himamaylan City Mayor Carminia Gatuslao Bascon passed away at 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday (Jan. 14) at a private hospital in Bacolod City.

She was 88.

Former Mayor Agustin Ernesto Bascon confirmed the passing of his mother, whom he said got depressed when his father, Oscar, died in 2021.

The late mayor served as the local chief executive of the then municipality of Himamaylan for three years and also for nine more years when Himamaylan became a city.

She was also a vice mayor for nine years and was a councilor for three years.

Her son succeeded her as the city mayor also for nine years.

On Wednesday (Jan. 15), her remains will be brought to the Our Lady of the Snows Parish in Himamaylan City.

Bascon’s interment is scheduled on Sunday (Jan. 18).

Meanwhile, the University of St. La Salle (USLS) in Bacolod City expressed sympathy to the family of former Negros Occidental provincial agriculturist Edmundo Raul Causing, who died on Jan. 13, at the age of 57.

Causing was the former department chair of Agribusiness Management and a faculty member of the College of Business and Accountancy at USLS. | GB
