The Covid-19 mass vaccination of Capitol employees is slated May 20, as 43 provincial government workers tested positive for the virus, said Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz.

He said that seven of those who were infected were released Monday, May 17, from the isolation facility in Barangay Minoyan in Murcia following their full recovery.

The recovered employees are expected to go back to work immediately, with the Procurement Depot, where 11 workers tested positive for the virus, will also be opened, Diaz said.

He confirmed that during the weekend, two executive assistants of Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and a department head were added to the list of Capitol employees, who tested positive for COVID-19.

The governor, however, did not undergo a swab test since he was not exposed to the employees and did not experience any symptom of the disesase. Lacson received his first dose of the Sinovac vaccine two weeks ago.

Three members of the family of one of the executive assistants of Lacson also tested positive for Covid-19, Diaz said

Priority group for the May 20 mass vaccination at the Capitol are the frontliners, Diaz said.

“We’re having the mass vaccination in order to boost our resistance, and in order not to derail the delivery of public services,” he added.

He also ruled out a lockdown of the Provincial Capitol, stressing that it would mean a stoppage of many services.

The provincial government of Negros Occidental employs more than 3,000 workers, including the medical frontliners, who were already vaccinated.

Diaz said AstraZeneca vaccine will be administered to the 55 years old and above employees and Sinovac for 54 years old and below. — GB
