Jason Paul Mendez, 18, of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines-Negros Occidental Council, is among this year’s 10 Outstanding Boy Scouts of the Philippines awardees.

Mendez, a multi-awarded scouter and the National Scout Representative for Visayas, was at the House of Representatives Nov. 21 along with the nine other awardees and BSP officials.

The House has adopted a resolution honoring the 10 Outstanding Boy Scouts of the Philippines “for their exemplary demonstration of authentic qualities of leadership and good moral character”.

“The Ten Outstanding Boy Scouts of the Philippines for 2023 have proven themselves as outstanding role models, embodying the ideals of scouting, and contributing significantly to the development of their respective communities and our country as a whole,” the resolution said.

Aside from Mendez, the other awardees are Johann Sebastian Capanas and Hannah Angela Arribas of the Cebu BSP council, Alester Galieto Jude Capacio (Zamboanga Sibugay), Ethann Michael Aguirre (Quezon City), JP Nelson Sumando (Surigao del Norte), Queen Marjorie Arroyo (Batangas), Samantha Lorraine Jauco (Tarlac), John Jazper Luna (Manila), and Jedryc Romero (Laguna).

“In this resolution, we recognize 10 Boy Scouts who have shown tremendous qualities that help shape their communities for the better. They are role models that people can imitate or emulate, and they do our country a great service by being good leaders,” Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez stressed in a House press release.

The resolution noted that the BSP has been “instrumental in shaping the character and leadership skills of young individuals across the nation, established to inculcate in our youth the values of patriotism and nationalism, and encourage their involvement in public and civic affairs”.

The search started in 1989 to recognize scouts who have shown exemplary and best epitomize good moral character and demonstrated authentic qualities of leadership in the institution and community, it added. | CGC
