A massive vaccination rollout was held at 888 Chinatown Square this weekend as the number of COVID-19 deaths in Bacolod City rose to 112 in the first 24 days of this month.

The inoculation Sept. 25 and 26 targeted mall shoppers, said City Administrator Em Legaspi-Ang, executive director of the Bacolod City Emergency Operations Center-Task Force and COVID-19 Vaccination Council coordinator.

The 888 mall vaccination venue adds up to the existing 33 sites that were set up to accommodate Bacolod residents willing to get inoculated against the deadly virus.

Ang said the EOC-TF aims to vaccinate every eligible resident to prevent hospitalization and deaths due to the COVID infection.

She added that from Sept. 1 to 24, Bacolod logged 112 COVID-related deaths, the highest recorded in a month since the start of the pandemic.

Of the fatalities, 99 were unvaccinated, while 13 were either fully vaccinated or had received the first dose, records show.

“The actual data from many studies showed that vaccines are effective in preventing COVID-19 hospitalization and deaths,” Ang stressed.

As of Sept. 23, the city has vaccinated 192,774 residents, with 133,458 already fully inoculated against the coronavirus disease.

Ang said the city government and the EOC-TF highly appreciate the support of 888 Chinatown Square management in the vaccination drive.

Public and private partnership plays a major role in the city’s COVID response, she said.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia, meanwhile, renewed his call for residents to get inoculated soonest and to help educate their families about COVID-19 as their contribution to the city government’s campaign against the pandemic, a press release from the city said.

The LGU, through the EOC-TF and the CoVaC, offers several flexible methods to get COVID-19 jabs for Bacolod residents.

These include the deployment of five buses for the Vax-i mobile vaccination drive; onsite, barangays, and clusters vaccination; mall-based and drive-thru vaccinations; and 24-hour inoculation at the Gatuslao and East branches of Jollibee.|
