A 33-year-old motorcycle driver died Sept. 7 in an accident along the bypass road on the national highway in Barangay Blumentritt, Murcia, Negros Occidental.
The victim, a construction worker and resident of Proper Puso, Barangay Puso, La Castellana, was traveling from Murcia Proper toward Bacolod City on a black Rusi TC 125 motorcycle when he lost control of the vehicle, the Murcia police said.
The motorcycle veered off the road and into a roadside canal, where the driver was carried into a culvert by the water current.
Passersby attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before transporting the driver to the Murcia Health Center, but he was declared dead on arrival by an attending physician.
The motorcycle is in the custody of Barangay Blumentritt for safekeeping.
