Negros Occidental 5th District Rep. Emilio Bernardino Yulo is still keeping his political options open for the 2028 elections.
“I am neither United Negros Alliance (UnegA) nor Love Negros,” Yulo said, noting that he has not been recruited by either political group.
He added that he would personally respect whatever agreement may be reached between the two parties.
“Personally, when it comes to terms, we will also honor whatever the agreement between the two parties,” he said.
Yulo, a member of Lakas-CMD national party, also made it clear that joining either provincial alliance is not a requirement for his political plans.
He said that even if no alliance is formed, he could run independently, noting his electoral experience in the 5th District.
“I survived in the district,” Yulo said, stressing that there is no compulsion for him to join any of the provincial party.
Yulo’s remarks came as UNegA officials continued to remain tight-lipped about reports that several mayors are preparing to transfer to the local political alliance ahead of the 2028 elections.
Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr., UNegA secretary general, declined on Tuesday, Aug. 25 to identify the mayors allegedly set to join the party.
Escalante said UNegA is also waiting for developments on whether the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections will push through in November, adding that local concerns need to be addressed first.
“There are still local problems that should be resolved first before other matters can be tackled at the local level,” Escalante said. | GPB
