Mayor Greg Gasataya has called on commercial establishments and the public to cooperate with authorities in addressing illegal dumping, noting an expected surge in waste generation during the MassKara revelry.

Gasataya urged business owners to strictly enforce waste segregation in their premises and coordinate directly with the city’s authorized garbage hauler for proper collection and disposal.

The appeal was made after two employees of a restaurant along Lacson Street were caught illegally dumping waste in Barangay Bata.

Following a technical conference organized by the Bacolod Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO), the Environmental Management Bureau-Negros Island Region, and Bata punong barangay Remus Abaring, the restaurant management acknowledged the violation, pledged to follow proper waste disposal procedures, and assured officials that the incident would not be repeated.

Gasataya said he has directed BENRO and the City Legal Office to monitor waste disposal compliance.

He added that BENRO and garbage collectors are working hard to ensure proper waste collection and disposal, especially during the festival when waste generation normally increases due to tourist surge. | TMD
