Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr., secretary general of United Negros Alliance (UNegA), said on Friday, Oct. 9 their political group remains open to working with Love Negros for the 2028 elections.
He described their relationship as one of continued courtship amid discussions on a common gubernatorial candidate.
“We’re still in love with each other. We are courting each other,” Escalante said.
“Whatever we discussed before, that is still the same,” he added.
The gubernatorial race in Negros Occidental in 2028 has drawn attention, with the names of Third District Rep. Javier Miguel Benitez and Second District Rep. Alfredo Marañon III emerging as prospective contenders.
However, neither the lawmakers nor their respective political groups have made a formal decision on their plans for the gubernatorial race.
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, a member of Love Negros, has been pushing for a common candidate for governor in 2028. | GPB
