A vibrant show of unity and support filled SM City Bacolod April 26 as 2,100 participants came together for the Autism Society Philippines (ASP) Angels Walk for Autism.

Part of a nationwide movement held simultaneously in 11 SM Supermalls, the event connected Bacolod to the main celebration at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, bringing together families, advocates, and communities in a shared call for inclusion and acceptance.

The mall transformed into a gathering space of color, energy, and purpose for the day. Families arrived in coordinated shirts, banners, and team names, creating a warm and welcoming environment for individuals on the autism spectrum, its press release said.

ALL OUT FOR INCLUSION. Around 2,100 participants, led by Autism Society Philippines Bacolod Chapter officials, SM Cares, and local government representatives, gather at SM City Bacolod April 26 for the Angels Walk for Autism 2026, forming part of more than 50,000 supporters nationwide in a unified call for acceptance and inclusion.

The Bacolod leg was spearheaded by the ASP Bacolod Chapter, with strong support from local leaders, including Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, Carmeli Bantug for Bacolod Rep. Albee Benitez, and Alma Gustilo of the Bacolod Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office, representing Mayor Greg Gasataya.

More than just a walk, the event became a celebration of abilities. Participants took part in a program that featured performances and a talent showcase, where individuals on the spectrum confidently shared their gifts on stage.

Serving as judges were Gustilo, along with Janalyn Navarra of DepEd Bacolod, and Miss World Negros Island Region 2025 Cindy Valencia, who continues to champion awareness and empowerment for persons with disabilities.

The Angels Walk for Autism continues to grow each year, reflecting a broader movement toward inclusivity in Filipino society.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, Carmeli Bantug-Zayco representing the Office of Congressman Albee Benitez, and Dr. Janalyn Navarra of DepEd Bacolod join Angels Walk for Autism 2026, signifying their strong community support for inclusion.
Participants on the autism spectrum lead the community walk at SM City Bacolod, setting an energetic and inclusive pace for the Angels Walk for Autism 2026.

It also supports legislative efforts, such as the proposed National Autism Care, Support, and Inclusion Bill, which aims to provide better access to services and opportunities.

At its core, the event is about connection: families finding community, advocates strengthening their voice, and individuals on the spectrum being seen, heard, and celebrated.

Moments like these highlight how shared spaces can bring people together for a meaningful cause, turning a simple walk into a powerful expression of unity. ||
