The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) is calling for an intensified and institutionalized campaign against dengue and leptospirosis in Bacolod.
The SP approved a resolution urging the City Health Office (CHO), local disaster management agencies, educational institutions, and all 61 barangays to execute coordinated prevention, surveillance, sanitation, and public information drives.
“We should not wait for dengue and leptospirosis cases to increase, or for lives to be lost, before taking action,” proponent councilor Caesar Distrito said.
“Prevention must always be our first line of defense. We need the collective effort of our city government, barangays, schools, health workers, and residents to protect our communities,” Distrito said in a statement Oct. 15.
Concerned offices and agencies should carry out regular cleanup efforts, remove mosquito breeding grounds, and address drainage obstructions in vulnerable areas.
“Public health protection should be continuous, not seasonal. Through prevention, preparedness, and cooperation, we can save lives and build a healthier and safer Bacolod City,” Distrito added.
The CHO earlier said 891 dengue cases with six deaths were logged across Bacolod, as of Oct. 3. | TMD
