A total of 105 fishing boats were either damaged or destroyed by strong waves and winds in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental as the shear line and northeast monsoon affected weather conditions across Negros Island over the weekend.
The Office of City Agriculturist report on Jan. 4 indicated damage of P1.925 million to fishing boats in the coastal barangays of Tiglawigan, Banquerohan, Cadiz Viejo, Zones 2, 4, and 5 as well as Sicaba and Daga.
Several fishing boats were also reported to have been damaged by strong waves in Barangay Punta Mesa, Manapla.
Mayor Mika Escalante called on the affected fisherfolk to coordinate with the agriculture office for possible assistance.
Nine fishing boats were reported to have been damaged in Barangay Tomongtong, E.B. Magalona, based on the report of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
Thirty-four families, composed of 126 individuals, were affected by floods in barangays 2 Poblacion, Batea, and Manta-angan.
A total of 14 houses were damaged in Batea and Tomongtong while damage was also reported in the sea wall of Manta-angan. | GB
