Dengue-related deaths in Negros Occidental have risen to 23 as the province recorded 4,208 cases from Jan. 4 to Oct. 17, 2026, according to the Provincial Health Office (PHO) report.

The number of cases, however, was 17.57 percent lower than the 5,105 cases recorded during the same period last year.

At least 11 dengue cases were recorded in each of the province’s 31 municipalities and component cities, with La Carlota City reporting the highest number at 728.

Other local government units with the most cases were Silay City, 422; Bago City, 354; San Carlos City, 224; Cauayan, 209; Sagay City, 205; Talisay City, 175; Kabankalan City, 160; Cadiz City, 160; and E.B. Magalona, 130.

Children aged one to 10 years old comprise the age-group with the highest number of dengue cases.

In highly urbanized Bacolod City, the City Health Office reported 891 dengue cases and six deaths as of Oct. 3.

The figure represented a slight increase from the 878 cases recorded during the same period last year.

Barangay Mansilingan posted the highest number of cases among Bacolod’s 10 barangays with the most reported infections, at 105.

It was followed by Handumanan with 77; Estefania, 73; Alijis, 58; Granada, 55; Villamonte and Taculing, 54 each; Singcang, 53; Tangub, 44; and Banago, 39.

Health authorities continue to urge residents to eliminate stagnant water and other potential breeding sites of Aedes mosquitoes, particularly in areas reporting high numbers of cases. | GPB
