The Land Transportation Office-Negros Island Region (LTO-NIR) said July 27 that it has served a show-cause order to the Bacolod Traffic and Transport Management Department (BTTMD) July 24, for allegedly counterflowing on a public road.

The agency initiated the investigation to determine accountability and observe proper administrative procedures.

“Traffic laws apply equally to everyone—private motorists, public utility drivers, government employees, and government vehicles alike,” the LTO-NIR said in a statement.

Bacolod Mayor Greg Gasataya also sought a formal explanation from BTTMD officer-in-charge, Atty. Reuben Mikhail Sabig, and issued a notice to explain to the city employee who was driving the vehicle.

Initial investigation revealed that the employee was responding to an urgent call for traffic assistance near an ongoing road construction project along Araneta Street, in front of a mall, where heavy congestion had been reported.

Gasataya reminded all city government employees, particularly personnel of the BTTMD, to strictly adhere to traffic rules and to lead by example. | TMD
