Two retired police generals, who previously served as provincial directors of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO), have returned to government service.

Retired Maj. Gen. Charles Calima took his oath of office on Sept. 30 as the undersecretary for special concerns of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Previously, Calima served as the intelligence chief of the Bureau of Immigration.

He used to be the head of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Intelligence Directorate before he retired from the police service.

Calima was the NOCPPO director from February 2005 to October 2006.

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon earlier said he wanted a fresh team to help him clean up the agency.

“I know them, I trust them, they were referred by people I trust,” Dizon was quoted in a television interview. “We need to really bring in new blood”.

Calima was among the five new DPWH undersecretaries.

Retired PBrig. Gen. Rodolfo Castil is now the assistant secretary for special concerns office of the Department of Agrarian Reform.

Before he retired from the police service, Castil served as head of the PNP Anti- Kidnapping Group.

He was the acting NOCPPO director in 2016. | GB
