The Provincial Health Office (PHO) is anticipating an increase in the number of dengue cases in Negros Occidental with the start of the rainy season, Dr. Ma. Girlie Pinongan, provincial health officer, said on Monday (June 16).
PHO recorded 2,326 dengue cases, with seven deaths, from January to June 7 this year.
The figures are higher by 281.31 percent compared to only 610 cases for the same period last year.
Pinongan, however, said that during the summer season they noted a decline in dengue cases in the province.
“Since the rainy season started, the PHO has been closely monitoring dengue cases as classes have also resumed,” she added.
Bago City still has the highest number of dengue cases at 474.
Meanwhile, the Bacolod City Health Office logged 401 dengue cases, including two deaths.
Cases increased by 137.3 percent, from only 169 cases, with zero fatality during the same period last year. | GB
