The declaration was made by the national DRRMC, through the National Gawad Kalasag Selection Committee, a press release from the LGU said.

The national and regional awarding ceremony will be held on Dec. 11 in Iloilo City.

“The awarding ceremony will be a celebration of the exceptional work and dedication of individuals and organizations, who have made significant strides in DRRM, climate change adaptation, and humanitarian assistance programs,” Fernandez said in the letter.

Kalasag, a term for “shield” used by early Filipinos to protect them from attacks, stands for “KAlamidad at Sakuna LAbanan, SAriling Galing ang Kaligtasan”.

Gawad Kalasag serves as the country’s recognition and award system for LGUs and other stakeholders that promote disaster risk reduction and management efforts. ||
